Taught by highly qualified performing professionals, The Ridgewood Conservatory’s Vocal Music and Acting Program offers a complete singing and acting education, combining professional performance practices with the literature and materials of music and the stage. More than just singing lessons, our instructors provide their students with the necessary techniques to enhance their performances, teaching our vocal students to “act the song” and our acting students how to use their voices.
Our vocal music curriculum is designed to provide a full range of performance training in the classical, musical theater and popular crossover vocal mediums, including opera, oratorio, pop, rock, jazz, R&B, gospel and country. Our Triple Threat Musical Theater program combines singing and acting lessons with Broadway-style dance choreography to create a truly “total performer.” (See below for Triple Threat Musical Theater.)

VOCAL PERFORMANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATER, OPERATIC, JAZZ, POP AND CONCERT STAGE
Performance-oriented vocal training with emphasis on American Musical Theater traditions and performance techniques for the singing actor, classical vocal performance in opera, oratorio and concert performance, and song-styling for jazz, pop and rock. Beginner singing lessons give our young performers the opportunity to learn how to “take the stage” and “tell the story.” More advanced vocalists and professionals will perfect their vocal technique and on-stage skills.
ACTING FOR STAGE, FILM AND TELEVISION
Private acting lessons allow the student actor or singer to focus on acting skills, explore various acting techniques, and/or receive one-on-one coaching for an upcoming performance or audition.

Six-Weeks: July 10 – August 17, 2019
Creative Drama (Ages 4-7)
A great introductory class for younger students who want to explore their creative imaginations through theater games and dramatic play. Students get to work hands-on with masks, puppets, props, and costume pieces to create short sketches and improvs. Themes such as fairy tales, folk tales, superheroes, sci-fi, and clowning will be explored.

Intro to Acting and Improv (Ages 8 -18)
Through fun theater games, improvisation, and acting exercises students learn about teamwork, spontaneity, physical and vocal expression, pantomime, and creating characters. Students get to tap into their creative imaginations and inner comedian.

Acting for the Stage (Ages 8-18)
In this class, students will delve into the world of musicals and stage plays. Students will explore both the physical and emotional components of acting. Areas covered include: theatre games and acting exercises, voice and speech for the actor, building a character, script analysis, sensory work, and scene rehearsal and performance.

Young actors delve into the world of musicals and stageplays, learning techniques from the great fathers of modern acting, such as Stanislavski, Meisner and Strasberg. Taught by actress/director Rachel Maddock, this workshop explores both the physical and emotional components of Acting for the Stage! (8 workshops per semester)

VOCAL WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG BEGINNERS*
In this delightful workshop, budding vocalists will take the first step toward becoming successful singers. In beginner singing lessons, taught by Keaton Douglas in a supportive group setting, students will learn breath management, how our body works when you sing, articulation and pitch − all while having fun singing a wide range of classic and current tunes. (12 workshops per semester)
