The Ridgewood Conservatory’s special programs for adults were created to meet the needs of everyone from young adults through senior citizens.

Sing showtunes, standards and light classical with other music lovers in an informal setting. Join a Chamber Music Group, Jazz Ensemble, Klezmer Ensemble, or play in one of our Rock Groups. Take classes in Music Appreciation, History or Music Theory, and so much more….

Taught by the same highly qualified professionals as our private lessons, these classes and ensembles are available for anyone who loves music and enjoys learning and growing through the performing arts.

SHOW TUNES SONGBOOK

Sing your favorite Broadway songs and classic standards in an informal setting. No experience necessary – just a love of music! (8 weeks)
SUNDAYS 1PM

SINGERS SONGBOOK

Join other vocalists for a more advanced exploration of American Musical Theater, jazz standards and light classical repertoire. Vocalists should have a musical or choral background; acceptance by audition. (8 weeks)

MUSIC APPRECIATION

Join those who share a deep love of music in a classroom setting where familiar masterpieces are made fresh and lesser-known artists and masterworks become familiar. Ranging anywhere from The Beatles to Beethoven, each semester of music appreciation is devoted to a new and specialized topic. (12 weeks.)

EXPLORATION OF FAMOUS COMPOSERS

Discover the vast creativity and repertoire of famous classical and contemporary composers such as Bernstein, Copeland, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Schoenberg, Beethoven, Mozart and more! (12 weeks.)

BEGINNING MUSIC THEORY – 1 AND 2

Topics to include note reading; basic rhythm concepts; interval identification; triads; major and minor scales; parallel scales; basic notation and ear training. (12 weeks. Level 1 – Fall ‘14, Level 2 – Spring ‘15)

INTERMEDIATE MUSIC THEORY – 1 AND 2

Topics include triads in major and minor keys; key transposition; seventh chords; modal and pentatonic scales; song form, periodic phrasing and cadences; secondary dominants; rhythm and ear-training. (12 weeks. Level 1 – Fall ‘14, Level 2 – Spring ‘15)

8 weeks: $199 per semester plus $25 music materials fee
12 weeks: $299 per semester plus $25 music materials fee

ENSEMBLES FOR PART-TIME MUSICIANS*

ENSEMBLE DATES AND TIMES TO BE DETERMINED
(12 one-hour rehearsals, culminating in an ensemble performance, each semester)

CHAMBER COACHING AND PERFORMANCE

Experience the joy of making beautiful music with other like-minded adults under the direction of a professional coach. Chamber music ensembles groups are formed based on level, repertoire interests and availability. All instruments and levels are welcome.

ADULT JAZZ ENSEMBLES

Explore the world of blues, standards and jazz tunes under the guidance of a professional jazz artist. Bassists, guitarists and pianists should be able to read chord symbols and others should be decent readers. All should have some experience improvising on jazz standards. It’s a playing class with a full band!

KLEZMER ENSEMBLES

Play the secular Yiddish music of dance and celebration famous for its moving rhythms and highly embellished melodies. Ensemble members will explore the unique style, techniques and beautiful repertoire of the Klezmer tradition, while enjoying performing as a band. All instruments are welcome.

ROCK GROUPS

Live your dream! Learn what it takes to be a part of a rock band by exploring a variety of playing techniques and styles. Master your favorite guitar licks by Hendrix, learn to compose like Lennon and McCartney, and get your funky groove on like Bootsy Collins. Bring your own band or join our other part-time rockers, coached by one of our pro’s from The Rock Shop towards a live concert show.
Vocals, guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, and horns at all levels invited.

Fees for all ‘Ensembles for Part-time Musicians’
12 weeks: $299 per semester plus $25 music materials fee

* Adults only. Students will be accepted by audition and placed according to ability and interest. Schedules will be determined by instructor. All ensembles are subject to enrollment.
