A three-part approach to the study of music, The Ridgewood Conservatory's Music Preparatory Program provides the student musician with a sound foundation as well as multi-faceted performance experience:
- Theory and Musicianship Classes. The study of Theory and Musicianship provides the framework necessary for the understanding and performance of music.
- Private Instrument or Vocal Instruction. Tailored to meet the individual needs and talents of the student, Private Instruction enables each student to progress at his or her own rate.
- Chamber Music and Jazz Ensembles. Ongoing participation in an ensemble serves to broaden the scope of performance beyond that of private study.
Vocal Music and Acting
Taught by highly qualified performing professionals, The Ridgewood Conservatory's Vocal Music and Acting Program offers a complete singing and acting education, combining professional performance practices with the literature and materials of music and the stage. Our instructors provide their students with the necessary techniques to enhance their performances, teaching our vocal students to "act the song" and our acting students how to use their voices.
Our vocal music curriculum is designed to provide a full range of performance training in the classical, musical theater and popular crossover vocal mediums, including opera, oratorio, pop, rock, jazz, R&B, gospel and country.
Triple Threat Musical Theater Program
Designed to help your future star become a true ‘total’ performer, The Ridgewood Conservatory’s new Triple Threat Musical Theater Program offers talented children and teens the opportunity to explore the magic of Broadway, the delights of movie musicals, and the excitement of pop culture in a full semester of voice, acting and dance workshops.
Working under the direction of well-known professional vocalists, actors and dancer/choreographers, your student-performer will learn how to tell a story through song, explore the various acting and stage techniques specific to the musical theater, and develop the skills necessary to combine movement and music through dance, all in a collaborative group setting.
Whether you're a novice or an experienced dancer, you won't want to miss this incredible opportunity to study with The Ridgewood Conservatory's faculty of acclaimed professional dancers!
Our Dance Program guides students of all ages and levels in a positive, nurturing environment where each is encouraged to be the best dancer he or she can be. Lessons offered in ballet and point, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip-hop, dance acrobatics, musical theater and ballroom, as well is in pilates for adults.
In addition to group classes, our dance pros offer private instruction for more intense study or audition preparation.
Early Childhood Music
Our youngest students realize their musical potential by learning to translate their natural affinity for music into instrument readiness.
The Music Together® curriculum used for our program includes developmentally appropriate activities to keep your child engaged while learning about life through music.
Every parent knows that early childhood is a remarkable period of growth and development. We believe it is also the perfect time to start your child's musical education.
An extension of the Music Together® curriculum, Rhythm Kids is an exciting and comprehensive music, movement and drumming program designed to help children develop their rhythm skills and gain a deeper level of musical understanding – preparing them for more formal music instruction and private lessons.
Your child will sing, move and drum to songs and beats from around the world while he or she integrates rhythm in new ways and develops greater musicality.
Suzuki-plus! Violin Program
Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's theory was that, with the right environment, teachers and supportive parents, every child can succeed in learning music. Young musicians learn to play the violin through listening, imitation and repetition, as well as learning to read music, in our Ridgewood Conservatory approach to the Suzuki method. In the Suzuki-plus! Violin Program, parents attend both weekly private lessons and group classes with their child, and practice the violin with them at home every day, to provide loving encouragement and support.
Beyond creating future musicians, Dr. Suzuki’s goal was to nurture loving human beings and help develop each child’s character through the study of music. Our Suzuki program was designed to create the best environment to foster your child’s talents, self-expression and love of music.
Early Childhood Dance
A sister-program to our Early Childhood Music classes, the early ballet, tap and hip-hop classes offered at The Ridgewood Conservatory are structured to address the different physical and social skills of each age group - adding more "movement to music" opportunities for our younger students.
Taught by certified instructors, Early Childhood Dance classes are a lovely way to introduce your child to the magical world of ballet, tap and hip-hop. Your young dancer will discover that our classes encourage self-expression in a safe, non-competitive environment.
No glitz, no glamour - just delightful dance classes!
THE ROCK SHOP
The 'all new' ROCK SHOP at TRC brings you an outrageous blend of outstanding pro rockers and cool new ways to rock out!
A division of The Ridgewood Conservatory, The ROCK SHOP was created for students (young or old) who want to play the rock ‘n roll music they download and enjoy.
Our goal is to help students master their instruments or vocals, write songs in a rock style of their choosing and develop their own sound, while learning the fundamentals of true musicianship.
The Ridgewood Conservatory’s special programs for adults were created to meet the needs of everyone from young adults through senior citizens.
Sing showtunes, standards and light classical with other music lovers in an informal setting. Join a Chamber Music Group, Jazz Ensemble, Klezmer Ensemble, or play in one of our Rock Groups. Take classes in Music Appreciation, History or Music Theory, and so much more....
