We are so honored to announce that famed guitarist Nelson Riveros has joined our faculty!

New York based guitarist Nelson Riveros is part of an emerging force of a new generation of Contemporary artists. His debut recording titled ‘Camino Al Barrio’ peaked at #8 on the Jazz Week World Music Chart. He was nominated among his peers as ‘Next Best Generation Artist’ and ‘Best Latin Jazz Guitar’ for the 2010 Latin Jazz Corner Best of The Year Awards.

Nelson has performed and recorded with Grammy nominated pianist Hector Martignon, Grammy winning bassist John Benitez, Samuel Torres, Luis Bonilla, Alfredo De La Fe, Jeremy Wall of Spyro Gyra, Billy Drewes, Scott Wentholt, Jim Seeley, John Mosca, Ivan Renta, Vince Cherico, and Italian singer Carmelo Zappulla.

Nelson’s Quartet has performed at The Iridium, Trumpets in Montclair, The Bar Next Door, Terraza 7, Zinc Bar, The Long Island Winter Fest Jazz on the Vine, Nuyorican Poets Café, Edgewater Music & Arts Festival, Celebrate summer in Midtown Music Series, Van Dyke Cafe in Miami, Something’ Jazz Club and a recent tour of Colombia. Nelson appeared on Univision’s ‘Aca Entre Nos’ music segment talking about his music and influences.

Passionate about passing on his love of the guitar to students of all ages, Nelson has been teaching all genres of guitar music – including folk, pop, rock, Latin and jazz – in the New York area since 2000, first at the Dalton School in Manhattan and later at Our Lady of Solace in the Bronx, Crestwood Music Education Center in Eastchester, and at the 92nd Street Y’s School of Music. He is currently on the faculties of the Cresskill Middle School / High School and the Englewood on the Palisades Charter School. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music from CUNY – City College, and has worked towards a Master’s degree in Music Education at Lehman College.
