Marina Sakellakis wins Reinauer Award and acceptance to eight colleges!
Winner of the Ridgewood Choral’s 2016 Florence Reinauer Memorial Music Award for excellence in vocal or instrumental performance, saxophonist MARINA SAKELLAKIS is a senior at Bergen County Academies. Marina has been a student of TRC Director Lou Caimano since 2009 and plays with the Teaneck Community Band. She has attended the Rutgers University Summer Band and Orchestra Camp, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Eastman Summer Saxophone Institute, and has won numerous local, regional and national competitions in recent years.
Planning to continue her musical education toward her goal of becoming a professional classical saxophonist, Marina has been accepted to the music programs of every college to which she has applied, including The Blair School of Music in Vanderbilt University, New England Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, Boston University, The Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, The School of Music at Michigan State University, The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at the University of Michigan, and The School of Music at the University of Illinois.
Marina will perform at the Ridgewood Choral’s 88th Anniversary Spring Concert on Thursday, April 21 at 8pm at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. (Visit www.ridgewoodchoral.org for more information on the concert.)
The only problem with our exceptionally talented Marina going off to a bright future in college and an even brighter professional career is that we’ll all miss her around here so much!
