Singer-Actor Keaton Douglas Makes TRC Her Bergen County Home Base!
KEATON DOUGLAS is a singer and actress of unusual versatility. Equally adept at a Verdi aria with full orchestra, a jazz ballad with piano, a swinging chart with an 18-piece Big Band or performances with countless pop artists, she has wowed tens of thousands in a wide range of venues throughout her career.
Keaton has headlined in Las Vegas and beyond, and entertained at two presidential inaugurations with the inimitable Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians. As the principal soprano with the New Jersey Pops, Keaton has performed to sold-out crowds at the PNC Bank Arts Center, and Atlantic City’s Tropicana Hotel and Casino. She has concertized with various orchestras, performing operatic works as well as the classical Broadway repertoire. Even though Keaton is an accomplished soprano soloist, she is equally well known for her work as a swing and Big Band singer, performing with Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians at Busch Gardens in Virginia, and throughout Las Vegas. She has appeared at Birdland, New York’s premiere jazz club, Trumpet’s in Montclair, and various hotels and casinos in Atlantic City. For many years, Keaton was the featured vocalist with the Somer’s Dream Orchestra, New Jersey’s most sensational, swinging big band, performing at MUSIKFEST, the nation’s most prestigious music festival in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and innumerable other venues throughout the state. She has performed on stage with Drew Carey, Nancy Wilson, Bob Newhart, Julius LaRosa, Jerry Vale, Joe Piscopo and many others. Keaton is a veteran recording artist in various genres, including appearing as a guest artist on “A MidSomer’s Night Dream” with the Somers Dream Orchestra.
For almost two decades, Keaton has taught vocal and performance technique to both aspiring and accomplished singers of all ages. Her students have appeared on Broadway and in regional theater. Keaton believes that with a solid understanding of vocal technique, singers should be able to perform any genre of music for which they have a personal affinity – crossing the bridge between musical theater, classical, jazz, pop, rock, etc. as the mood (or the gig!) takes them.
Keaton was trained in both vocal technique and teaching voice to students by the renowned tenor, Dr. Stephen Oosting, professor of Voice and Vocal Pedagogy at Montclair State University. In addition, she studied acting with famed actress Sandy Dennis at HB Studios in New York City, and with legendary classical actress and acting coach Francelle Stewart Dorn at Folger Shakespeare Theater in Washington D.C. Keaton holds a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University and a Master of Arts from Seton Hall University.
We are so honored that Keaton has agreed to make The Ridgewood Conservatory her new home-base here in Bergen County. Her formidable expertise, extensive performance experience, and infectious love for performance make her the perfect addition to our Vocal and Acting faculty!
